Arms Exported from Armenia to Bulgaria: Details
Between 2017 and 2018, approximately $155,000 worth of weapons were exported from Armenia to Bulgaria. This information comes from Panarmenian.net.
The report notes that according to the Commodity Classification for External Economic Activities, the exported weapons belong to category 9301. This category includes several types of firearms and military equipment such as automatic rifles, machine guns, sniper rifles, and various other arms, as well as large-caliber weapons including artillery and anti-tank systems.
Parts of weapons, shells, and cartridges are categorized under different product groups.
In 2017, Armenia exported 65 items to Bulgaria for a customs value of $32,500, while in 2018, 240 items were exported for a customs value of $122,000.
Based on the quantities and prices, it can be inferred that these were not large weapon systems, but rather firearms or light grenade launchers.
The largest similar transaction in recent years occurred in 2014 when approximately $1.5 million worth of weapons were exported from Armenia to Congo. The Ministry of Defense confirmed the transaction at that time but did not disclose any details about it.
Notably, Armenia purchased over 1,000 machine guns from Bulgaria in 2017, which Sofia reported to the UN Register of Conventional Arms.
