Armed Man Opens Fire in Astrakhan Region

An armed man in the village of Bakhtemir, Astrakhan Region, opened fire on police officers with a pistol but was killed in return fire.

This was reported by the Russian Investigative Committee's representative for the region, as cited by РИА Новости.

According to the investigation, on February 24, concerned residents of Bakhtemir alerted the police about a man with a weapon wandering around the village.

“During negotiations to surrender the weapon, the man fired several shots at the police officers but was killed in return fire,” said the source.

During the detention process, an operative police employee sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
