Lydian Armenia Sues MP Sergey Bagratyan

Lydian Armenia's lawyers have filed a lawsuit against Member of Parliament Sergey Bagratyan, demanding that he publicly refute statements made during a meeting held on February 17 in the educational complex of Jermuk, which were deemed defamatory. Bagratyan remarked, "Dear people, the question is very simple; there is a very trivial truth, it is not serious for us to take it seriously, because the previous governments received bribes and allowed what is being spoken of, I state this with full responsibility..."

This is mentioned in Lydian Armenia's statement.

The company is demanding that Bagratyan publish a retraction in at least 1000 copies in any print media with circulation throughout the Republic of Armenia within one week after the court's decision comes into legal force. The retraction should have the headline “Retraction” and the following content: “The statements made by Sergey Papashi Bagratyan during the parliamentary familiarization meeting held on 17.02.2019 at the Jermuk educational complex, which are considered defamatory and relate to the taking of bribes from Lydian Armenia CJSC by the previous authorities, do not correspond to reality.”

Lydian Armenia has also demanded monetary compensation from Sergey Papashi Bagratyan for defamation.

The company emphasizes that it has long demonstrated leniency and often refrained from responding to such statements. However, it will no longer tolerate the spread of defamation against the Company by anyone and will resort to appropriate legal measures in such cases.

“Public speech is not only a moral responsibility but also a legal category, and it is astonishing that there is a need to remind individuals who consider themselves political figures about this,” the statement reads.
