Sit Back and Relax. Arpine Hovhannisyan

Mr. and sometimes Ms., it is better to undertake nothing at all, because when you decide to stimulate investments, you create obstacles for investors; when you decide to deal with environmental issues, you pose a serious risk of ecological disaster. This was stated by former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Arpine Hovhannisyan, on her Facebook page.

She particularly pointed out:

“Yesterday, the company ‘Lydian Armenia’ issued a statement indicating that it had informed the Government of Armenia that it would not bear responsibility for any environmental issues arising in the area. Moreover, it clearly stated that the Government of Armenia is demonstrating inaction and that they can no longer fulfill their contractual obligations.”

“All day yesterday, I expected to hear a response from the Government of Armenia regarding this extremely important and urgent issue. But it was in vain. One might ask, what do you expect?”

The entirety of the situation's luxury and misery is as follows:

1. The so-called ‘investment-friendly’ Government created such conditions for a major investor under the name of environmental issues that the latter suspended its activities and will most likely resort to arbitration, where it will undoubtedly win and notice...!!! The Government of Armenia will have to pay compensation equivalent to 50% of the state budget. But that’s not an issue, right? The important thing is that we are sovereign and such things. I shouldn't forget to mention that the compensation will be at the expense of us, the taxpayers.
2. For the international community, this is a litmus test of how the 'Nikol' government in Armenia treats investors. Everyone is watching this case with bated breath. How the issue will be resolved, or rather, in whose favor, is one side of the coin, the other side is the RELATIONSHIP with the investor, meaning how the state will resolve the issue so that existing investors do not flee, and silent observers do not forget Armenia's standing.
3. Perhaps it is also ironic fate that this entire absurdity began under the guise of preventing environmental danger, while now it is Lydian that is warning that due to the Government's inaction, grave environmental issues have arisen, which the government itself is responsible for.
