Road Blocked to Prevent Removal of Ballot Boxes and Protocols from the City
According to ArmLur.am, supporters of defeated candidate Vahan Zaroyan closed the road during the evening of the local elections in Vardenis, Gegharkunik Province, to prevent ballot boxes and protocols from being taken out of the city. We spoke with Aram Melkonyan, who has tentatively been declared the winner of the elections and is the acting mayor, who confirmed that the road had indeed been blocked.
However, he expressed uncertainty about who was responsible for this action and why it was carried out, but noted that the protocols are still in the city. He personally does not wish to go there to avoid inflaming the situation.
Additionally, ArmLur.am has learned that there are other individuals among the defeated candidates who wish to join Vahan Zaroyan. Furthermore, the exit from the city is blocked from all sides, both towards Martuni and towards Chambarak. Just before 1:20 AM, we received information that the police in Vardenis, through explanatory work, have managed to open the roads, agreeing to block them again at 10 AM. They insist that Aram Melkonyan, the candidate backed by Gegharkunik Governor Gnel Sanosyan, has not won, despite celebrations already taking place in the city.
