Gazprom Armenia Denies Sabotage: Clarifies Payments for Gas Consumption in January

Complaints from a number of subscribers regarding the amounts paid for consumed natural gas during the heating season are recurring. This has been an issue in previous heating periods as well, and it's not the first time,” said Mikhail Harutyunyan, an employee of Gazprom Armenia’s public relations and media department, in an interview with the newspaper ‘Haykakan Zhamanak’.

In recent days, social media users have been actively discussing that during January, compared to December, they paid significantly more for the gas consumed. Citizens also claim that there have been no changes to the heating systems in their apartments. Some people even link this to the increase in gas prices at the Armenian border, suggesting that it is sabotage.

“The increase in certain consumption volumes among subscribers is mainly attributed to the external air temperature. This results in greater thermal losses from the exterior walls of apartments and houses. These thermal losses must be compensated with a larger volume of gas consumption,” Harutyunyan stated, adding that Gazprom Armenia is prepared to address each complaint individually, providing a history of consumption to allow comparisons with previous years.

“In other words, we are ready to respond to each complaint from every subscriber. In any issue, subscribers not only can but should contact Gazprom Armenia to receive answers to their raised questions or to resolve their problems,” Harutyunyan noted. When the media pointed out that the public is discussing whether this is sabotage related to the increase in gas prices at the border, Harutyunyan responded: “We categorically disagree with such claims and do not intend to comment on that.”
