Installation of 'Euro-Booth' in Sanahin Gavit
“While we spare no effort in maintaining the cleanliness and preservation of monuments, some are busy disrupting the culture with their bourgeois mentality,” wrote Yasha Solomonian on his Facebook page, alongside a photograph.
“Behold. A 'Euro-booth' is being installed in the gavit of Sanahin. Wouldn’t it be more civilized, easier, and fairer to make access to the monastery area paid rather than engage in such tacky and sloppy endeavors? Regardless, I advise the authors of this disgust to be aware that we are coming...”
“Our culture is neither in Makunts nor, even more so, in the Catholicos; it belongs to each of us— to everyone whose heart aches for it and who understands its value deeply.”
The user called for the attention of all relevant authorities and officials. We hope the so-called 'Euro-booth' will be dismantled as quickly as possible.
It is worth recalling that the Sanahin monastery complex is located in the Sanahin district of Alaverdi city in Lori province, on the elevated terrace of the right bank of the Debed River. The first church of the complex, St. Astvatsatsin, was built in the 30s and 40s of the 10th century.
Together with the Haghpat monastery, it is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
