Manvel Grigoryan Accused of Misappropriating Supplies Allocated to the Youth Union: Special Investigation Service

Manvel Grigoryan's lawyer, Arsen Mkrtchyan, stated in an interview with armtimes.com and the newspaper Haykakan Zhamanak on February 14, 2019, that Grigoryan is accused of misappropriating 'soldier's food intended for soldiers during the April War, specifically produced in May 2017.' This is noted in a statement from the Special Investigation Service (SIS).

The statement reads as follows:

“In this regard, we find it necessary to point out that such statements by the lawyer aim solely to distort reality and create misunderstanding among the public regarding the charges against his client, Manvel Grigoryan.

Once again, we would like to clarify that Manvel Grigoryan is accused not only of misappropriating food supplies and equipment handed over to the Youth Union (YEK) by the Ministry of Defense of Armenia and the Defense Army of Artsakh for the needs of soldiers and volunteers during and after the April Four-Day War of 2016 but also of misappropriating and wasting tangible assets allocated to the YEK in previous and subsequent years (2014, 2015, 2017), including food products, clothing, and other materials. This is reflected in both the decision to involve Manvel Grigoryan as an accused and the announcement made by the SIS on February 14, 2019.

Of course, we are far from the idea that lawyer Arsen Mkrtchyan fails to understand the above-mentioned circumstances outlined in even layman's terms in the charge decision. Nevertheless, we urge the lawyer not to distort the truth and to remain within the bounds of professional ethics.”
