Couple Charged with Drug Trafficking and Illegal Circulation
The Investigative Committee of Armenia has uncovered details related to a case of drug trafficking and illegal circulation of substances through a comprehensive investigation conducted by the Serious Crimes Investigation Division of the Yerevan Investigative Department.
Based on the evidence obtained, charges have been brought against a couple.
According to the data gathered during the investigation, a resident of Yerevan, born in 1966, has had legal residency in the Netherlands for about 10 years. Due to health issues, she obtained a prescription for buprenorphine legally. With the intent to illegally sell the drug in Armenia, she illegally transported a significant amount of buprenorphine tablets to Armenia.
After reaching an initial agreement with her husband, born in 1985, the 53-year-old woman transferred the buprenorphine tablets to him on various days between February 21 and June 1, 2017, during which he sold the tablets.
Additionally, the investigation has revealed that the woman illegally acquired and carried a factory-produced hunting folding knife, which is considered a civilian cold weapon.
Based on the sufficient combination of evidence obtained, the woman has been charged under Article 266, Part 2, Points 1 and 2; Article 267.1, Part 3, Point 1; and Article 235, Part 4 of the RA Criminal Code. An alternative preventive measure of bail has been applied to her. The husband faces charges under Article 266, Part 2, Points 1 and 2 of the RA Criminal Code, with a measure of preventing him from leaving being chosen as a signature.
The pre-investigation has concluded, and the criminal case has been sent to the prosecutor overseeing the legality of the pre-investigation with an accusatory conclusion.
