The U.S. State Department: We Do Not Support Cooperation Between Armenia and Russia in Syria

“We understand the desire of other states to respond to the humanitarian situation in Syria, and we share concerns about the protection of religious minorities in the Middle East,” the U.S. Embassy in Armenia stated in a response provided to Aysor.am.

Following is an excerpt from the media's inquiry response:

“Nevertheless, we do not support the involvement of the Syrian armed forces for the purpose of providing assistance to civilians or for military purposes.

We also do not support the cooperation between Armenia and Russia for this mission. Russia has cooperated with the Assad regime, perpetrating violence against civilians and causing a humanitarian disaster. Russia continues to defend the Assad regime and its atrocities on the global stage.”
