Large-Scale Livestock Theft Case in Aragatsotn Region: Damage Estimated at About 6 Million Drams
On February 6, a large-scale livestock theft occurred in the Aragatsotn region. Around 08:00, 61-year-old Knkush Makaryan, a resident of the 32nd street in Sasunik village, reported to the police department in Ashtarak that between 23:00 on February 5 and 08:00 on February 6, an unknown individual or individuals broke the lock of the entrance door to the barn belonging to his son, 40-year-old Hayk Sargsyan, at the end of the 20th street in Sasunik village, using technical means, and stole large livestock.
According to shamshyan.com, the thief or thieves stole 5 cows and 2 calves from the barn. In an interview with a photojournalist, K. Makaryan stated: “This is not the work of one person. They definitely came with a large vehicle. Each cow weighed 350-400 kg. We are confident that the theft was carried out by a group. We have contacted the police, hoping they will find them. Who closes the barn and then reports it as robbed? This was our only means of livelihood. Now we are left in the dark, not knowing what to do. At least if they catch them, it would ease our hearts. We want to know who the scoundrel is that has done this harm to people struggling to make a living. All 5 cows were about to give birth. We were keeping those animals on credit. Now we have come to a broken trough. We ask and demand from the competent authorities to find them. We are convinced that if they wish to, the crime can be solved.”
The mother and son Makaryan have suffered damages amounting to 6 million drams.
