Azerbaijan Declares International Wanted Status for Elnur Huseynzade in Artsakh

Azerbaijan has declared international wanted status for Elnur Elman oglu Huseynzade, a former serviceman of Azerbaijani military unit N. This information was reported by Azerbaijani news outlet haqqin.az, citing the country's Prosecutor's Office.

According to Armenian Time, the publication notes that Huseynzade exhibited unsatisfactory conduct during his service and regularly left the military unit illegally. It is reported that Huseynzade is to be transferred to a third country.

In an interview with the media outlet, David Babayan, the spokesperson for the President of Artsakh, confirmed this information, stating that the young man has not committed any acts of terrorism, murder, or serious crime. He had initially stated that he did not wish to return to Azerbaijan.

It is noteworthy that on February 2, 2019, Elnur Elman oglu Huseynzade was sentenced to 2 years in prison by the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction of Artsakh. After serving his sentence at the penitentiary institution of the Artsakh Police, he was released.

Huseynzade is accused of illegally crossing the state border protected by the Armed Forces of the Artsakh Republic, towards the Talish community in the Martakert region, without proper authorization on February 1, 2017, at around 15:00, while serving as a member of the reconnaissance platoon of the 157th motorized rifle brigade of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan. He was subsequently arrested by the personnel of the unit responsible for border monitoring.
