That was sarcasm, I did not propose changing the flag: Allen Simonyan

The Vice President of the National Assembly, Allen Simonyan's proposal to change the national anthem has become a hot topic of discussion online. Factor.am spoke with Simonyan on this matter.

Below is an excerpt from the interview:

- Mr. Simonyan, your critics say, have you solved all the issues, and now you are focusing on the anthem? Why have you decided to make this issue a priority?

- I have always said that the anthem is not good, but now I have suggested to the public to discuss it; I did not propose changing it, nor have I initiated anything. From these discussions, I have understood that there are issues related to the current anthem, and for the majority, it does not inspire satisfaction. Of course, this is not the most important issue, but there will always be some important matters like this. I believe that how you name the ship is how it will sail. I do not consider that a miserable, neglected anthem is appropriate for our Armenia.

- You have also commented on the tricolor flag on your Facebook page, writing that a cross should be added to it.

- That was sarcasm; I am confident that few will read this article, they will read the title you will put. However, I have understood that it is convenient for the media to have that title, and for people, it’s easier to read one sentence rather than a page. I repeat, that was sarcasm, I did not propose changing the flag.

- It is noteworthy that even in your faction, your viewpoint on changing the anthem is not shared.

- What can I say, they are against it, let them be against it. What I have thought, I will implement, I have found the solution. I do not think that the decision-maker is me or Arman Boshyan; the decision will be made on a very large scale.
