The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, has made a new post regarding the discussions on changes to Armenia's national anthem and shared his opinions on the proposed options. At the end of the post, Simonyan raised a new intriguing question. Here is the complete post:

“An interesting discussion took place regarding the anthem. I saw everything: praise, criticism, threats, assistance, and even some people tried to assert themselves at my expense. My conclusions from all this are as follows: it is clear that the current anthem does not enjoy the popularity of at least a large part of the Armenian people, and if not today, it will be changed in the future.

It is clear that the variations of the anthem by Charles Aznavour and Tigran Mansuryan are well-regarded, yet they cannot compete with the anthem of Aram Khachaturian which contains a hymn.

It is also evident that Khachaturian's anthem brings fear and resistance among certain individuals regarding the ghost of the Soviet era.

It is a fact that in 2006, the state decided that Khachaturian was the best option.

Taking the above points into account, I want to say even more straightforward things now:

The decision is up to you, dear people. Of course, there are many more important issues in the country, but they will always exist. I will not shy away from proposing different options to the public and listening to feedback. I will not hesitate to suggest bold, unpopular solutions and I am not afraid of intolerance and attacks.

I have an intermediate solution on this topic that I will soon implement my way, as I believe that my homeland is no longer miserable and abandoned, but is noble and strong, and as the ship is named, so shall it sail. And until then, as a public official, as an Armenian, I will stand up and respectfully approach the current anthem and, appreciating the old, I can embrace the new with you.
