Tank Flash Mob? Kocharian's Lawyer's Strange Statement

The newspaper "Joughourdt" reports: "The more supporters of Armenia's second President Robert Kocharian speak about the case of the 2008 constitutional order overthrow, the more they put their client in an awkward position.

Yesterday, one of Kocharian's lawyers, Ruben Sahakyan, addressing the accusations of involving the military in domestic political matters on March 1, 2008, stated, 'The army was tasked with protecting state and government buildings on the evening of March 1, while during the day they were standing still, doing nothing.'

In response to the comment that there were scenes in the film showing tanks on the morning of March 1, Sahakyan replied that they were just standing there. The mere fact that troops and military equipment were 'standing in the capital' inherently suggests the military was used for political purposes, especially since the state of emergency in Armenia was declared quite late and the special session of the National Assembly was convened on March 2 at 00:25. In any case, it is hard to believe that on that day tank operators had unanimously decided to organize a 'flash mob' in Yerevan, go for a walk, and simply stand in the city center. If they came out of their barracks and found themselves on the streets, then there must have been an appropriate command, which means the military was involved in political processes.

Another fact: yesterday, Sahakyan also noted that it was not his client who attempted to overthrow the constitutional order, but Armenia's first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan and his supporters. However, it is strange why for 10 years the President of Armenia was Serge Sarkisian, whose candidacy was supported by Kocharian.

Furthermore, if it was the first president who attempted to overthrow the constitutional order, why was there no indictment brought against Ter-Petrosyan himself or against two deputy ministers of defense, Manvel Grigoryan and Gagik Melikyan, who, according to the lawyer, were participants in the attempt to overthrow the constitutional order? Moreover, why were these two military officials not immediately dismissed for attempting a crime against the state?"
