Armenia Purchases Russian Su-30SM Fighter Jets

Armenia has acquired multipurpose Su-30SM fighter jets from Russia. This was announced by the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia in response to a query from Sputnik Armenia.

"The relevant agreement for the purchase of Russian Su-30SM aircraft has been signed by the government of the Republic of Armenia," the Ministry stated. The media outlet notes that the ministry did not respond to questions regarding the number of aircraft and the total cost of the deal. The agency indicated that inquiries contain classified information, some of which will be disclosed at corresponding stages of the implementation of the deal.

The statement also mentions that acquisitions within the framework of a 100 million dollar loan for the purpose of purchasing armaments from Russia are in the process of being executed.

Defense Minister David Tonoyan had previously stated on December 1 during a meeting with Russian journalists that the process of acquiring the aircraft is nearing completion. He also reported that negotiations are in the final stage regarding the delivery of armaments under the 100 million dollar Russian loan.

The Su-30SM is a multipurpose fighter jet manufactured in Russia. Due to its technical and flight characteristics, the Su-30SM is classified as a 4++ generation fighter. The primary objective of this aircraft is to establish air superiority in its operational environment. It can perform its assigned tasks regardless of weather conditions and the time of day.
