National Security Service and Police Will Not Become Ministries, but Will Be Accountable to Parliament
State bodies must operate under parliamentary oversight, but this does not necessarily mean that they need to become ministries. This was stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
“What does it mean for the police to become a ministry? It means that a political figure must be appointed as the head of that law enforcement body. Consequently, that law enforcement agency will become partisan directly or indirectly,” noted the Prime Minister.
According to Pashinyan, the current regulations maintain a certain stability for the police and other law enforcement systems, and personnel changes occur in a balanced and calm manner, ensuring that stability and the country’s security are not compromised.
Regarding the establishment of parliamentary oversight, Pashinyan mentioned that they are committed to this idea.
