ASALA Fighter Varoujan Karapetyan Passes Away

Varoujan Karapetyan, a fighter from ASALA, has passed away in Armenia. This information was reported by the "Arevalk" news agency, citing sources close to the deceased.

Karapetyan was a prominent figure, leading the France division of the Armenian Secret Army for the Liberation of Armenia (ASALA) in the early 1980s. In 1983, he was arrested following an explosion at Paris's Orly Airport, and after a trial in Paris, he was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Seventeen years later, in response to appeals from the Armenian side, the French authorities released him in 2011, and he was subsequently deported to Armenia.

Varoujan Karapetyan was 65 years old.
