We Are Not Defeatist and Will Not Be, There Is No Alternative: Mnatsakanyan

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, is surprised by the comments suggesting that the Armenian side has defeatist attitudes and has lost the trust of the public.

“This is insulting to all of us, including the public. We have not been defeatist, and we will not be,” Mnatsakanyan stated, adding that the Armenian side is consistently working to make Artsakh a party to the negotiations. “If everything does not happen at once, it does not mean we have forgotten or moved on. This is a specific, practical issue for us. The Prime Minister represents Armenia and is elected by the people of Armenia. The representatives of the Artsakh people are the authorities of Artsakh. The authorities of Artsakh are elected by the people of the Republic of Artsakh. We cannot take on all obligations without Nagorno-Karabakh. This is a matter of the effectiveness of the negotiations,” said the minister.

Mnatsakanyan emphasized that there is no alternative to peace in the Karabakh settlement, and the alternative, as he put it, is “catastrophe.”
