Updated: Blizzard, Black Ice, Closed and Impassable Roads

The Ministry of Emergency Situations reports that as of January 28 at 16:00, there are impassable roads within the territory of Armenia.

The Vardenyats Pass is open for light passenger vehicles, while it is impassable for heavy trucks.

On the Sotk-Karvachar road, as well as in the Shirak region's Ashotsk and Amasia areas, and on roads in the Syunik region, there are spots of black ice.

Blizzard conditions are reported in the Aragats region of Aragatsotn.

Drivers are advised to only travel with winter tires.

According to information received from the Road Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, the Stepantsminda-Lars road is closed for all types of vehicles.

Construction Works Underway

Construction works are underway on the Vanadzor-Alaverdi road between the 39th km and Bagratashen.

Alternative routes for transport have been established as follows:

For transport movements within the communities towards Alaverdi, Vanadzor, and nearby settlements:

  • Vanadzor-Stepanavan-Agarak-Koges-Aygehart-Odzun-Alaverdi through the segments of the Georgian border road.

Since June 30, 2018, up to January 28 of this year, construction work has been ongoing at the 139th km of the Yerevan-Meghri highway, resulting in a 200 m stretch being closed to one-way traffic.
