If there were no bonuses, employees would not understand it: Aragatsotn Governor

Everything started a long time ago; bonuses have been common in the past as well. No matter how hard we try to fight against corruption and bribery, if the staff is not properly compensated, everyone in their position will not be able to refrain from the temptation of receiving gifts or bribes.

This was stated by the Governor of Aragatsotn, Garik Sargsyan, during an interview on the Freedom Radio station while discussing bonuses. He noted that his words generally refer to the low salaries of civil servants, not specifically to the governor's office or governors.

Garik Sargsyan, who was previously the head of the Nor Kyanq village, mentioned that even at that time, there was a salary and bonus fund in the community, and they had savings. When he was the community leader, he also rewarded the employees of the community administration with what is known as a '13th salary.'

According to Garik Sargsyan, this is a common phenomenon, and employees would not understand it if those bonuses did not exist.

Regarding whether bonuses will be distributed next year, Garik Sargsyan replied, "This year, I can say for our governor’s office, the bonus budget has been increased by 86 million drams; we are preparing to grant bonuses, but already providing specific evaluations of the employees based on their work performed. Accordingly, they may deserve bonuses not just once a year, but even 3-4 times."
