What Caused Mher Yeghiazaryan's Death: Investigative Committee Provides Details
In light of public interest, we report that Mher Yeghiazaryan, who worked as the head of press and public relations at the ''Hayjrmughkoyughi'' LLC in the spring of 2015, was sentenced to four years in prison under Article 178, Part 3, Clause 1 of the RA Criminal Code for fraudulently demanding and receiving a notably large sum of money from the director of one of the LLCs by giving a false promise regarding winning a declared competition. However, the sentence was conditionally not applied, and a probation period of five years was established. This was stated by the head of the Information and Public Relations Department of the Investigative Committee, Naira Harutyunyan.
In December 2018, within the framework of a criminal case initiated by the RA NSS Investigative Department, Mher Yeghiazaryan was charged under Article 178, Part 2, Clause 2 (2 episodes), Article 178, Part 3, Clause 1, Articles 38-34-312, Part 3, Clause 1 (2 episodes), and Article 38-34-312, Part 2 of the RA Criminal Code. He was taken into custody as a preventive measure. On December 4, 2018, Yeghiazaryan declared a hunger strike. On December 21, 2018, the criminal case was sent to the Investigative Committee through the Prosecutor’s Office for further investigation. On January 17, 2019, Yeghiazaryan ended his hunger strike and was under the supervision of medical staff at the penitentiary.
About 10 days after the hunger strike, his health condition sharply deteriorated this morning, and the arriving emergency doctors recorded his death. Preliminary materials prepared by the Investigative Committee's EKKV Ecological and Economic Criminological Department in the administrative regions of Erebuni and Nubarashen indicated that an autopsy confirmed that his death was due to a heart attack.
