Presidential Administration Responds to Mher Enokyan's Pardon Request
The Presidential Administration has reacted to the pardon request of life-sentenced prisoner Mher Enokyan.
“Considering that the pardon request of life-sentenced prisoner Mher Enokyan has gained significant public attention, as well as the request for a meeting addressed to the President of the Republic from Mikhail Agajanov, head of the Department of Biochemistry at Yerevan State Medical University and father of the murdered Yosif Agajanov in 1996, we inform that this matter has been reported to President Armen Sarkissian in response to numerous inquiries,” the statement reads.
According to Article 5 of the ‘Law on Pardon’ of the Republic of Armenia, the advisory commission on pardon matters presents its conclusion regarding the pardon request to the Prime Minister, after which the Prime Minister submits a recommendation to the President on whether to grant or deny the pardon request.
It is noted that until this moment, the President has not received any proposal from the Prime Minister concerning this issue.
“The head of the Presidential Administration has also informed Elena Agajanov about this during a phone conversation,” the statement continues.
Previously, it was reported that Mikhail Agajanov, head of the Biochemistry Department at YSMU, a distinguished figure in science, and the father of the murdered Yosif Agajanov, had made a post on his Facebook page, addressing Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and requesting a meeting as “the parent of the murdered Yosif Agajanov, as a distinguished figure in science, and finally as an Armenian man.”
It is noteworthy that Mikhail Agajanov had sent an open letter to President Armen Sarkissian and Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
