In Artsakh, They Remain Unyielding; There Can Be No Agreement

According to the "Zhoghovurd" newspaper, Russian political scientist Stanislav Tarasov's claims during a recent interview with 168.am—that Prime Minister Pashinyan and President Aliyev will sign an agreement regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh issue in June—have sparked various reactions in the domestic political arena.

"Zhoghovurd" reached out to Stanislav Tarasov to clarify the basis of such a significant statement. He admitted that these assertions are the result of impressions and analyses. "During the last meeting, we had the impression that Aliyev was satisfied while Pashinyan looked somewhat sad.

“Let’s consider this: Aliyev and Pashinyan had a one-and-a-half-hour discussion, followed by four hours with Mamedyarov and Mnatsakanyan. This indicates they had a topic of discussion, but what that topic was remains unknown,” he stated.

"Zhoghovurd" also spoke with another Russian political scientist, Modest Kolerov, to find out what is known in Russia regarding the Artsakh issue.

Kolerov mentioned a different timeline, asserting that the parties could sign an agreement concerning the Nagorno-Karabakh issue in March during a summit. He added that such a document has existed for a long time; only the final signature is expected to be completed in March. What document is he referring to that needs to be finalized?

"Zhoghovurd" also conversed with David Babayan, the spokesperson for the President of Artsakh.

He emphasized that for conflict resolution, it is essential to restore the full negotiation format. "The Armenian side has stated this several times. The question is related to the fate of Artsakh, and it cannot be resolved without its participation. We do not believe in such an agreement. Secondly, we need to understand what concession is based on, and whether we will only be satisfied with verbal promises from Azerbaijan,” Babayan announced.

He also added that at this stage, the key issue is the preservation of peace and ensuring stability in the region, and no developments can occur on the negotiation table without Artsakh,” he commented.
