Ex-Police Chief's Witness Former Officer Robbed in Yerevan
On January 20, a resident of Agayan Street in Artashat, 31-year-old Vahe Hovakimyan, approached the Artashat police department and reported that his Opel Corsa vehicle had been left in a malfunctioning state in Yerevan, at a location known to the public as the 'TEC Junction,' and that he had departed the area. He later returned to find that his car had been broken into and documents and cash were stolen.
According to Shamshyan.com, the investigation revealed that on January 19, around 16:00, Hovakimyan had abandoned the inoperative Opel Corsa near the inactive Nairit factory on Bagratunyan Street in Yerevan. By 22:00 that same day, he had repaired the vehicle and returned home without stopping anywhere, only to discover that his passport, social security card, vehicle registration papers, bank cards, and 500 US dollars were missing.
As the incident occurred in the Shengavit administrative district of Yerevan, the materials prepared by the Artashat police were transferred to the Shengavit police department. Sources from G. Shamshyan indicate that Hovakimyan is a former police officer and the son of former Ararat governor Vardges Hovakimyan, who had recently accused former police chief Alik Sargsyan of committing a crime and had filed a complaint with the Special Investigative Service. The police are undertaking necessary operational-search measures to locate the individual or individuals responsible for the robbery of the former governor's son’s vehicle and the stolen goods.
