Rename Anastas Mikoyan Street to Hrant Dink
Ani Khachatryan, a member of the "Light" faction of the city council, writes on her Facebook page.
"In the near future, the commissions of the Yerevan City Council will discuss a project to rename the street named after Anastas Mikoyan in the Davtashen administrative area of Yerevan (the Yerevan-Eghvard highway starting from the Davtashen bridge to the end of the Davtashen community administrative territory) in honor of the human rights defender, journalist, writer, and publicist Hrant Dink.
In the previous city council, a similar proposal to rename the same street was also put forth by the Yelk faction, but back then, it was suggested to name it after Kark Karkoryan, which was not accepted by the former authorities.
Yerevan should not have a street named after Anastas Mikoyan; otherwise, it signifies our lack of respect for the memory of the thousands of Armenians who were executed under his signature...
Dink is perceived as a new victim of the Armenian Genocide, and on the anniversary of his death, people visit the Armenian Genocide Memorial in Yerevan.
Renaming Anastas Mikoyan Street to Hrant Dink’s name, I believe, would be a proper historical recognition..."
