One Ton of Wheat Price Rises. Bread Sales Prices Under Review. "Zhoghovurd"

"Zhoghovurd" newspaper reports: "Producers engaged in bread manufacturing in Armenia are preparing to revise their bread sales prices. The reason is the increase in flour prices in the international market.

The daily informed that the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition conducted a study in the flour market and found that companies paid an average of 9,500 rubles per ton of wheat last September (without transportation costs), while in December this amount rose to 13,900 rubles (also excluding transportation costs). This indicates that the price of one ton of wheat has increased by about 46 percent.

Naturally, this will have negative repercussions on the prices of bread and other products made from flour. It is worth noting that this situation might have been prevented if the previous authorities had paid more attention to the agricultural sector, and if wheat production in Armenia had not decreased in recent years.

It is reported that the level of self-sufficiency in wheat production in Armenia is low—less than 40 percent."
