Fog, Black Ice, and Impassable Roads: What is the Situation?

As of January 14, at 19:30, there are impassable roads in Armenia.

The Vardenyats Pass is closed only for trucks, while it is difficult for passenger vehicles to navigate.

The Sotk-Karvachar road is impassable.

There is black ice in various sections of all roadways in Kotayk Province, in the Ashotsk and Artik regions of Shirak Province, and on the Sevan-Gavar-Martuni road in Gegharkunik Province.

In the Ashotsk region of Shirak Province, it is snowing in Gyumri, and there is fog on the Gyumri-Lanjik road.

Drivers are advised to travel exclusively on winter tires.

According to information from the Road Department of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, the Stepantsminda-Lars road is open for all types of vehicles.

According to the information from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia’s Republic of North Ossetia, there are traffic jams on the Russian side.

Construction Works Ongoing

Construction works are taking place from the 39th km of the Vanadzor-Alaverdi road to the Bagratashen section.

Alternative routes for transport have been established as follows:

For local traffic to the cities of Alaverdi, Vanadzor, and nearby communities, the route is:

1. Vanadzor-Stepanavan-Agarak-Koghes-Aigehat-Odzun-Alaverdi via the road sections to the Georgian border.

Since June 30, 2018, ongoing construction at the 139th km of the Yerevan-Meghri road has led to a one-way closure of approximately 200 meters.
