Transgender Person in Armenia Changes Name and Receives New Passport
A transgender person born in Armenia in 1993 has successfully changed their name and received a new passport. With the new passport, they now have a female name.
This information was shared by the human rights organization "Law to the Side".
The announcement states that, with the financial support of the European Foundation for Democracy, the project carried out by the "Law to the Side" human rights organization has enabled transgender individuals to receive legal assistance, allowing Diana Gh. to now present herself with her newly renamed passport that aligns with her gender identity and expression.
It was noted that through cooperation between the organization and the Civil Registration Agency of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, the process for many transgender individuals to change their names has been simplified. It is now possible to change names without requiring the testimony of three individuals confirming the transgender status of the person undergoing the change, as well as the previously mandatory psychological assessment.
