Investigative Committee Returns Computer Equipment to Yerevan.Today
The Investigative Committee has returned the computer equipment of Yerevan.Today. This was announced by the editorial team of the website.
The statement specifically notes: “On December 28, the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia returned the computer equipment of the Yerevan.Today news and analytical website, which had been seized during a search that lasted more than 7 hours on September 17. The Investigative Committee required 100 days for the examination of one computer and four hard drives. In response to a written inquiry from the President of the Union of Journalists of Armenia, Satik Seyranian, on December 10, Deputy Head of the Investigative Committee V. Mesropyan stated that the examination would be completed by December 27, 2018.”
“Now that the examination is complete, we demand the investigative authority to issue a statement regarding what was discovered in the computers seized from the media in connection with the wiretapping case involving the leaders of the National Security Service and the Anti-Corruption Committee.”
“We are making the same request to our colleagues in the media and to organizations engaged in the protection of media rights.”
“We will spare no effort to expose any actions aimed at tarnishing the reputation of our website through legal and political means. At the same time, we thank our colleagues for persistently raising the issue alongside us.”
“It should be noted that during the past 100 days, the work of Yerevan.Today has largely been disrupted, as we have been unable to operate at full capacity. Even now, operations will remain disrupted, as we will not open or use this computer equipment until we have a statement from the investigative body based on their conclusions.”
“Following the Investigative Committee's statement, the equipment will be thoroughly examined by IT specialists to ensure that we are only working with it ourselves, and not in parallel with the investigative authorities,” the statement concludes.
