Armenia's Foreign Ministry's Firm Response to Elmar Mammadyarov
Armenia's Foreign Minister spokesperson Anna Naghdalyan believes that there can be two approaches regarding the statement made by Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.
"We can reaffirm our very clear position regarding the status of Nagorno-Karabakh and the priority of security within the negotiation package, offering broader clarifications in both cases. Nevertheless, we believe that restraint should be shown in public statements, thereby supporting the negotiations, if there is indeed a sincere desire to maintain commitment to them. This especially applies to cases where attempts are made to present unilateral views as conditions," the comment published on the Ministry's website states.
According to Naghdalyan, one should not decide the will of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh on their behalf.
"Conditions, not to mention threats, will have no impact on our position in the negotiations. Expressions of optimism or pessimism are equally ineffective methods in influencing the process. It is necessary to be realistic and genuinely committed to finding a solution acceptable to all parties," she said.
It is worth reminding that Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov announced that Baku is ready to grant a high level of self-governance rights to the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh.
