BBC Article on Armenia Ranks Among Most Read
The British BBC's Russian service has compiled a list of the most popular articles among readers, featuring works from the BBC Travel and BBC Future sections from 2018.
Included in the top ten is the article titled 'Symbols and Legends of the First Christian State in the World,' which discusses the Christian traditions of the Armenian people and the ancient churches located in modern-day Armenia.
The article covers the history of recognizing Christianity as the state religion in Armenia, and highlights important religious monuments and sites, particularly the Zorats Church in Vayots Dzor, the Geghard Monastery, and the St. Gayane Church in Etchmiadzin.
'The Armenian Apostolic Church is one of the oldest Christian churches, distinguished from both the Byzantine Orthodox and Roman Catholic churches. Armenia is a small country, yet its role in the spiritual history of the world is hard to overestimate; it became the first Christian state in the world in 301,' the article states.
In addition to Armenia, other subjects that piqued readers' interests include the story of the Titanic, the islands of Japan and Alaska, the secret ingredient of Eastern hummus, Yugoslavia, and a journalist's adventures in Havana.
