Migration Service Announces Restrictions on Items Transported from Armenia to Georgia
The Migration State Service of Armenia has provided useful information for Armenian citizens traveling to Georgia regarding what is allowed to be transported into the neighboring country and in what quantities.
Upon entering Georgia, it is permitted to transport a maximum of up to 200 cigarettes (10 packs). Violations of this law will result in an administrative penalty starting at 1,000 lari. The vehicle of the violator may be confiscated at the border and subsequently sold at auction.
As of March 1, 2018, when crossing the Georgian border, the driver or owner of a vehicle is required to insure their vehicle. Individuals who do not have mandatory insurance will be fined 100-200 lari.
If an Armenian citizen has a permit for carrying weapons within Armenia, they must present the weapon's certificate and the permit documentation upon entry into Georgia.
When entering Georgian territory, a citizen can carry up to 30,000 lari (approximately 12,000 dollars) without declaration. For amounts exceeding this, it is necessary to declare it at the border.
Without declaration, up to 500 lari (200 dollars) worth of gold items can be transported across the border. For amounts exceeding this, it is necessary to declare the items at the border.
