Vladimir Gasparyan's Lawyer Issues Statement
“I am authorized to declare on behalf of the former Chief of Police of Armenia, Vladimir Gasparyan, that the information contained in the statement of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, which has also been disseminated by the media, is completely false and defamatory,” wrote lawyer Tigran Atanesyan on his Facebook page. He also notes that he is confident that the objective investigation of the criminal case will refute this information, and that if there are sufficient grounds, the guilty party should be held accountable for blatant false testimony.
It is recalled that prior to the parliamentary elections in Armenia in 2012, during the months of January and February, a senior official from the police, the former Chief of Police, promised to intervene and assist the former owner of “King Deluxe” company in resolving issues related to paid transportation services, if the latter supported the Republican Party of Armenia in the parliamentary elections.
According to the agreement, based on group interests, the senior police official introduced the former owner of the mentioned company to police officials serving the Abovyan region, as well as to the head of the territorial body of the Republican Party, to work together. Additionally, he instructed his subordinates in the police to assist him and not to interfere with his entrepreneurial activities, including in cases of violations of traffic rules, while, on the other hand, creating obstacles through the traffic police for the free buses of the charitable foundation to operate.
Vladimir Gasparyan served as the Chief of Police of Armenia from 2011 to 2018.
