Judge in Kocharyan Case Plans to Leave Armenia

According to the newspaper "Zhoghovurd", rumors in the judicial system suggest that Alexander Azaryan, a judge at the Court of Appeal of Armenia, intends to leave the country soon, seeking political asylum from one of the European countries.

Sources from "Zhoghovurd" assert that Azaryan made his statement about the blatant pressure on the system in order to present himself as a political victim of the new authorities.

It is worth recalling that Azaryan’s decision last summer changed the measure of restraint for former President Robert Kocharyan, who is accused in the March 1 case. This decision caused widespread dissatisfaction among the public, and there is an opinion that the judge wants to take advantage of the situation.

The newspaper attempted to clarify the situation directly with Judge Azaryan; however, he did not want to engage when he realized that the caller was a journalist and hung up the phone. Other attempts to speak with the judge were also unsuccessful, as he did not answer our calls thereafter.
