It Is Natural That I Do Not Accept the Charges: Armen Gevorgyan
The court session regarding the detention of former Deputy Prime Minister Armen Gevorgyan began shortly ago at the general jurisdiction court of Yerevan's Nor Nork community.
In response to reporters' questions, Armen Gevorgyan stated that he does not accept the charges against him and declined to answer other questions.
“I am familiar with the charges; it is natural that I do not accept them,” he noted.
It is noteworthy that charges have been brought against Armen Gevorgyan in connection with the criminal case of March 1. As reported to journalists by the head of the Special Investigative Service, Sasun Khachatryan, the charge is not under the article of subverting the constitutional order but rather under the article concerning obstruction of justice, namely Article 332, Part 3 of the RA Criminal Code. The accusation is based on a publication from Wikileaks, which indicated that there was pressure on Constitutional Court Judge Valeri Poghosyan, who complained that he was under pressure from Robert Kocharian's staff to make a decision in favor of Serzh Sargsyan. According to the head of the Special Investigative Service, the Wikileaks publication has been substantiated, claiming that Armen Gevorgyan, along with another official, attempted to exert pressure on the Constitutional Court Judge Valeri Poghosyan.
A prior measure of signature not to leave was applied against him.
