VIDEO: Tensions Unresolved in Nor Gegh Community, Mayor Provides Clarification

Tensions continue to simmer in the Nor Gegh community of Kotayk Province for the past four months. Previously, it was reported that Vardan Papyan has been appointed as the acting head of the Nor Gegh community, who locals claim is a fellow villager of the regional governor and his protégé.

It is noteworthy that after Papyan's appointment, the situation in the community has intensified. Residents of the village have demanded that several candidates be considered for the position of mayor from the Governor of Kotayk, Romanos Petrosyan.

Residents specifically stated: “Whoever comes, let them come, but not someone imposed from above, telling us, ‘Here is your mayor.’ We left the Republican Party, only to fall into the ‘pocket of the Republican Party’ again. It is not ruled out that one day the school principal will be dismissed to place their relative.”

It is significant that in September, village residents demanded that a member of the Civil Contract party, who has roots in Nor Gegh and is well known by the villagers, be appointed as the head of the community.

Radioaurora contacted Mayor Vardan Papyan to understand what is causing the tension in the community and whether reports about his resignation are accurate.

Interview with Vardan Papyan available in the video.
