The Issue of the CSTO Secretary General May Drag On Until May 2020
The newspaper “Zhamanak” reports: “According to our Russian sources, the election of the CSTO Secretary General may be postponed indefinitely. At least until May 2020, when the three-year term granted to Armenia expires. During this period, the position of the Secretary General will be held by Valery Semirikov, the Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO, who is currently the acting Secretary General.
This will be a compromise solution. On one hand, Armenia will be punished for initiating criminal proceedings against Khachaturov and for damaging the CSTO's image. On the other hand, Belarus will not receive the position prematurely, thus not violating Armenia's legitimate claims regarding that post.”
