Opinions Divided in the Republican Party: 'Hraparak'
The newspaper 'Hraparak' reports that throughout the night of the elections, the Republican Party (RP) has been on its feet, unable to sleep, with Serzh Sargsyan calling important party members from the regions to discuss various issues regarding future struggles and their responsibilities. They returned home in the morning after the preliminary results were announced by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC). Before heading home, the topic of contesting the election results was discussed.
Opinions were divided, with RP members arguing that a broad base of evidence is needed for such a move, which is currently lacking. One of the main advocates for contesting the results was RP organizer Ruben Tadevosyan, who claimed that different results were obtained from several territorial structures, suggesting that similar discrepancies could exist in other areas as well. Others mentioned that even in the absence of ironclad evidence, a contestation should still go ahead to prevent future claims that they recognized the election results, a tactic previously employed by Nikol Pashinyan without appealing to the Constitutional Court.
It is worth noting that contestations must be filed within a week before the CEC publishes the final results, which will occur on the 16th of the month. In that case, the new parliament will hold its first session on December 24. 'However, if any political force contests the results, the session will then be moved to January,' our source informed us.
