My Presence Complicates the Situation at the National Theater: Shahverdyan's Statement
The Artistic Director of the Yerevan Sos Sargsyan National Theater, Suren Shahverdyan, has decided to resign from his position.
This was announced by him on his Facebook page.
“Dear actors of the National Theater, dear theater-loving public, I have lived and worked in the theater all my life. It pains me to see the paralyzed state of the theater. This cannot continue. I will not tolerate the collapse of the theater. I see that my presence complicates the situation even more, although I extended my hand to you, convinced that I could help and be useful, but it turned out to be the opposite... I have now decided to resign from the position of artistic director. As I promised, I remain your friend, I embrace each of you and wish you success in your work. I hope that our misunderstandings will be forgotten, and the offenses directed at each other will be forgiven. I also hope that we will have opportunities in the future to create together and serve Her Majesty Theater,” Shahverdyan wrote on his Facebook page.
It is noteworthy that Suren Shahverdyan was appointed as the artistic director of the National Theater on November 29. Following his appointment, a wave of protests arose among the theater staff.
