1st Dead End of Baghramyan Avenue Named After Raphael Lemkin
The 1st dead end of Marshal Baghramyan Avenue in Yerevan has been named after the jurist and creator of the term 'genocide,' Raphael Lemkin. This was announced during the formal ceremony for the street naming by Deputy Mayor of Yerevan, Sergey Harutyunyan.
'Several options were discussed, and this street was chosen. I believe it is a very appropriate street to be named after the renowned Lemkin,' he stated.
According to Adama Dieng, the UN Secretary-General's special adviser on the prevention of genocide, Raphael Lemkin witnessed and felt the impact of genocide and developed the term.
