Sell the House and Everything Else, Take It, Eat It, Be Satisfied: Car Sellers Protest in Front of the State Revenue Committee

A group of car sellers held a protest today in front of the taxpayer service center of the State Revenue Committee. In an interview with News.am, one of the participants, Meruzhan Badalyan, stated that the SRC is attempting to tax them twice.

“We were told by the tax inspector that if we sell a car once a year, we can register a second one as a donation to avoid taxes. We asked and did just that. Now we have received letters stating that for the second car, which we donated, we need to pay 20% of its market value. Why should we pay for something we donated, not sold? Secondly, why are they charging us based on the market value of the car? Moreover, we are trying to sell a car that has numerous issues at a price far below market value, so how can we pay that 20%?” he said.

According to the protesters, the SRC initially clarified that the decision to collect this tax was made effective from January 1 of this year, but later changed their mind, making it effective from June 1. “Now one of us completed their transaction in April and they also received a letter. What do they want from us? Should we sell our houses and everything else, take it, eat it, and be satisfied? There are people who have sold their cars to pay for hospital bills; how can they pay that 20%?”

The car sellers are planning to hold a protest in front of the government building as well.
