Around 160 Employees to Be Laid Off at BEC, Irregularities Found at Nuclear Power Plant: Minister of Energy
Approximately 160 employees will be laid off at the BEC (Armenian Energy Company). This was announced by the Acting Minister of Energy Infrastructure and Natural Resources, Garegin Baghramyan, following today’s government meeting.
According to him, active efforts are being undertaken regarding dismissals.
“Two days ago, there was an election, and a new director was appointed, whom we will present today. Soon, we will also approve the staffing table of BEC, where a reduction of around 100-160 employees is anticipated. It can be said that these employees were not particularly engaged in BEC’s core activities. With a staffing table of 1,000 and 163 vacant positions, we have 90 extra-staff contractual workers. It is unclear why we are keeping extra-staff workers if we have vacant positions,” said Baghramyan.
Referring to issues related to the nuclear power plant, Garegin Baghramyan indicated that investigations are currently underway. The irregularities that have been identified pertain to ongoing renovation work, involving a 33 million dram embezzlement.
