Remove Campaign Posters from Unauthorized Locations: Mayor Marutyan's Order

During a regular working meeting, Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan instructed to immediately remove campaign posters that have been placed or hung in unauthorized locations.

“I ask all responsible individuals and heads of administrative districts to promptly remove all posters that have been illegally posted in unauthorized locations, regardless of which party they belong to. We are a non-partisan body in this regard and must ensure equality for everyone. If it’s not allowed, then they must be removed immediately and new cases of poster placement should be prevented so that the municipality does not later spend money on their removal. In this regard, I ask you to be vigilant. I also urge all political forces to warn their candidates and not to allow such illegalities,” the mayor emphasized.

During the meeting, the mayor was informed that necessary measures have been taken to ensure the accessibility of polling stations for voters with limited physical capabilities for the snap parliamentary elections scheduled for December 9, 2018. Of the 475 polling stations, work has been completed at 308, while the installation of ramps is impossible at 157 stations because they are located on the second floors of buildings. Situational solutions will be provided for these buildings.

To ensure compliance with the necessary norms for organizing construction sites in the capital, Mayor Hayk Marutyan instructed to primarily inventory all construction sites, review the norms for organizing construction sites, and then send warnings to construction companies while strengthening supervision.

“I am confident that norms are not being followed at almost all construction sites today. We must respond very harshly to all of this. First, we must inventory the construction sites, conduct studies, and start demanding accountability from those responsible for the construction,” Hayk Marutyan stressed.

Regarding the works being carried out under international credit projects in the capital, the mayor was informed that they continue according to the established timeline. In particular, with the support of the Asian Development Bank, the construction of the Davtashen-Ararat and Babajanyan-Ararat road sections of the Yerevan bypass road is ongoing. The construction of the Davtashen-Ararat road section is at the final stage. With the support of the Asian Development Bank, a technical and economic study of the existing elevator systems in Yerevan has begun, and the collected information will be provided to the consulting company.

During the working conference, the mayor was also informed that the program for the New Year holidays is ready. Work has also begun on the festive decoration and installation of the main Christmas tree in Republic Square. This year, Yerevan residents and visitors can expect a surprise: a new artificial Christmas tree is being installed. Rising to a height of 35+2 meters (including the top), the 14.4-meter-wide Christmas tree base is being prepared from high-quality artificial fir branches, and it will be adorned with around 200 kilometers of light chains and 1,500 ornaments.

During the meeting, Hayk Marutyan introduced the newly appointed advisor to the mayor, Arthur Sargsyan.
