US Concerned About Putin's Unexpected Message
According to Ed Price, a senior foreign-affairs researcher at New York University, Russian President Vladimir Putin's trip to China came as a signal to the United States, just shortly after President Donald Trump's visit.
“Putin's arrival is not coincidental; it happened just a few days after Trump's official visit to Beijing. Probably, he is reminding Americans that you can come to China as much as you want, but Russia is closer and friendlier than you,” Price stated in an interview with CNBC.
Invited by Chinese leader Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin is in China for an official visit on May 19-20. This trip is dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Russo-Chinese friendship treaty. Along with President Putin, a representative delegation, including deputy prime ministers, ministers, and heads of major corporations and state-owned enterprises, has traveled to China.
