Some Countries Depend on Azerbaijan: Aliyev's Controversial Statement

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, in an interview with Euronews, discussed current energy sector projects and infrastructure development, stating that at the beginning of next month, the country intends to announce the start of natural gas extraction from a new field. According to him, existing capabilities and geographical location allow for increased production volumes.

According to Azerbaijani sources, currently, twelve European countries are importing Azerbaijani pipeline gas, ten of which are members of the European Union. Aliyev emphasized that due to geological exploration work and gas pipeline infrastructure, Azerbaijan is among the leaders in supplying blue fuel to external markets via pipelines. “Some countries depend on Azerbaijani gas,” he remarked.

Addressing the crisis situation in the Strait of Hormuz, the Azerbaijani president assured that it has not affected their supply chains. He claimed that the reason is the transportation routes and energy diversification policy that has been implemented over the years with partners and neighbors. He also noted that the high price of oil, apart from generating revenues, could also cause damages to investments made in foreign stock markets due to global economic fluctuations.
