NATO Jets Deployed Amid Tensions Following Drone Downing in Lithuania

A drone has been discovered in a field near the village of Samanė in the Utena region of Lithuania. The incident, which occurred near the borders of Belarus and Latvia, was reported by Lithuanian national radio and television, citing the National Crisis Management Center. According to the head of the center, initial examination of the wreckage suggests that it is a Ukrainian military drone, although the specific launch site and the presence of explosives are still being verified.

It is noteworthy that Lithuania's armed forces did not register any flying objects within the country's airspace. This is not the first incident of its kind; in March of this year, another Ukrainian drone fell in the Varėna region adjacent to Belarus, which, according to official explanations, deviated from its course and remained undetected by air defense systems due to its low altitude.

On the same day, border incidents were also recorded in neighboring countries. NATO jets were deployed following the appearance of an unidentified drone in Latvian airspace, although the aircraft left shortly thereafter. In addition, in southern Finland, military and police are conducting search operations near the border with Russia based on a witness report, but no additional information about the outcomes has been provided.
