Tense Situation in London: Mass Demonstrations and Arrests

Unprecedented security measures have been implemented in the capital of Great Britain in connection with several large-scale events. London’s police forces have worked under special regimes during two concurrently organized large demonstrations and the final match of the FA Cup. A vast operation to maintain public order included more than 4,000 police officers, as well as armored vehicles, mounted units, drones, and helicopters. As a result of the actions taken, a total of 43 individuals were apprehended; however, no major incidents were reported.

Simultaneously in the streets of the capital, a large gathering of supporters of far-right activist Tommy Robinson took place alongside a pro-Palestinian march dedicated to Nakba Day. To avoid confrontations, law enforcement had previously imposed restrictions on the timing and routes of the demonstrations, prohibiting the mingling of groups with opposing views.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer issued a warning that individuals inciting disorder would be punished to the full extent of the law, criticizing the organizers of the rally for exacerbating divisions within society. Notably, these events are unfolding against the backdrop of a tense political situation in the country following local elections, where both far-right and far-left forces have significantly strengthened their positions. For security reasons, British authorities also banned the entry of 11 foreigners who sought to join Robinson’s rally.
