Free Surgeries and Medications: Pashinyan on Health Care Program

As of May 1, more than 500 surgeries exceeding 4 million drams each have been performed for free under the framework of the Universal Health Insurance in Armenia. This was announced by the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, during an election campaign event in the Center administrative district of Yerevan.

“There has not been a settlement where we have not met specific individuals who have already benefited from health insurance and have undergone surgeries valued at 2, 3, or 4 million drams. As of May 1, more than 500 people have undergone surgeries at the expense of the state budget in Armenia, and these are surgeries that cost 4 million drams and above. Thousands have undergone surgeries costing over 1 million drams, and tens of thousands have had procedures that cost more than 500 thousand drams. Additionally, tens of thousands have received services valued up to 50 thousand drams,” said Pashinyan.

Pashinyan also added that this includes those individuals who have chronic illnesses and receive free medications from the state budget. “They used to buy those medications with their pensions,” noted Nikol Pashinyan.
