Armenia Will Eventually Have to Make a Choice, Overchuk Says
Armenia will have to make a choice at some point between the EAEU and the European Union, and Russia will understand Yerevan's decision, stated Alexey Overchuk, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Government.
“Of course, as Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin has repeatedly said, we will approach any decision made by the Armenian people with understanding. There is a talk about the desire to get closer to the European Union. We have repeatedly stated that membership in the EAEU and the EU is incompatible. This is very well understood in Armenia as well... At some point, they will have to make such a choice if they decide to make that choice,” he said during the Kazan forum.
“Armenia is a country very close to us; it is our ally. It is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union, the CIS, and the CSTO. The human ties that unite us are very deep, very serious, and very old. We have great respect for the Armenian people,” Overchuk emphasized.
